22-Jan-2013 Realm Works Kickstarter Launches – Transform Campaign Management!
That’s right, our Kickstarter launched today! You can find it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/610004753/realm-works-streamlined-rpg-campaign-tools
From the creators of Hero Lab, Realm Works takes campaign management for RPGs to the next level, making it faster and easier to prepare for games, and greatly enhancing the actual game experience. GMs can create, manage, and share their world using a single tool, rather than trying to cobble things together with multiple, disconnected applications.
We're excited about this Kickstarter, as it will help us make Realm Works even more awesome than we're already planning! We have an array of rewards to offer backers, including the ability to get pre-release access to Realm Works, exclusive perks, and a whole lot more. We've also included some special options exclusively for Pathfinder players, so be sure to check those out!
For those of you who've been anxiously awaiting a peek at what Realm Works will offer, we encourage you to watch the Kickstarter video. We provide a glimpse of many key features in the video. So take a look at what's in store in just a few months’ time!
As we mentioned in the December newsletter, the primary features that will benefit most from the Kickstarter are the cloud server and community repository components. Each of these is detailed more fully within the Kickstarter and on our website. We'll also leverage your support to further refine the overall user experience and enhance the core Realm Works feature set. Check out the kickstarter page and video for more details!
If we exceed our funding goal, we have stretch goals that we’d love to deliver early. These include advanced functionality for GMs and players, plus some great new setting and adventure content from well-known creators, who are ready to take advantage of Realm Works’ time-saving capabilities.
Your support is instrumental in making this a successful Kickstarter and allowing us to deliver as much functionality as possible in the initial release. So please check out the project and spread the word to everyone you know. Thanks in advance for your support!

04-Jun-2011 Hero Lab 3.7 released, and introducing Powered by Hero Lab!
The long-awaited Hero Lab 3.7 update has just been released! Here's some of what we added:
- New Pathfinder data files released, including a new optional supplement package - Ultimate Magic! (Note that Words of Power are not included in the Ultimate Magic content yet - they'l be added as an update to the package sometime this month.)
- Custom output has been enabled for Pathfinder, the d20 System, both Mutants & Masterminds editions, and Savage Worlds! This allows users to define their own custom output types, which can then generate custom character sheets. See the manual for details.
- When printing your hero or generating a statblock, you can now choose to output every hero in the portfolio, allowing you to output multiple characters at once.
- New scrollable tabs allow Hero Lab to look great on smaller screens, for example on the Class tab in Pathfinder.
- Third-Party Updates allow easier management of updates created by independent authors for Hero Lab game systems.
- Hero Lab has a new installer, which complies with new program requirements in Windows 7. This means it no longer requires administrator rights to run if installed in certain locations.
And more! Check out the release notes in the Hero Lab 3.7 readme file for details. Hero Lab 3.7 is a free update for all previous users of Hero Lab.
We'd also like to announce our "Powered by Hero Lab" program today. If you're a publisher or fan who wants to use Hero Lab in conjunction with publishing your own content, you need to check this out! You can read all about "Powered by Hero Lab" here:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GREEN RONIN PUBLISHING AND LONE WOLF DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCE HERO LAB SUPPORT FOR M&M 3E
July 29, 2010 - Seattle, WA and San Jose, CA: Lone Wolf Development announced today that their award-winning Hero Lab character management software will support the forthcoming third edition of Green Ronin Publishing's Mutants & Masterminds superhero RPG.
"Hero Lab is an invaluable tool," said Steve Kenson, Green Ronin staff writer and M&M designer. "It automates the mechanical elements of character design, letting you focus on your hero's concept and adventures instead."
A "beta" Mutants & Masterminds 3rd edition Hero Lab package will be released at Gen Con in August, giving M&M fans early access to the same award-winning suite of digital tools they've enjoyed for 2nd Edition. When the M&M3 Hero's Handbook is released in the Fall, users of the beta version will receive a free update to the final data set.
"We've had a lot of users ask us about using Hero Lab for M&M third edition," said Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development. "We’re pleased that not only can we make this happen, but that the beta release will get the players early access to the rules.”
"Hero Lab has been a tremendous asset for the M&M fanbase," said Green Ronin President Chris Pramas, "and we couldn’t be happier to see it continue into the third edition era.”

Hero Lab Now Only Officially Licensed Character Management Tool for the Pathfinder RPG
July 2, 2010 (SAN JOSE, Calif. and REDMOND, Wash.) – Lone Wolf Development announced today that it has signed a licensing agreement with Paizo Publishing for Hero Lab to be the only officially licensed character management tool for the bestselling Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As part of the agreement, Hero Lab will not only include content from the Core Rulebook and Bestiary, but also from the soon to be released Advanced Players Guide, in addition to all of the setting specific elements from Pathfinder products published by Paizo.
"In the last year Pathfinder has really taken the industry by storm, and those of us here at Lone Wolf are delighted to provide a valuable service to such a great product," said Lone Wolf President Rob Bowes. "Paizo is one of the companies that just gets it. They understand that software tools like Hero Lab are critical to the success of games published in the 21st century and by lowering the barrier to entry, Hero Lab makes it easier than ever for Pathfinder to attract new players, and for existing players to maximize their gaming experience."
"We’ve been watching the development of Hero Lab for years, and it’s been amazing to see how the Lone Wolf team has adapted the tool for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game," said Paizo Publisher Erik Mona. "I can’t wait to use Hero Lab to help me design cool characters for use in my own campaigns as well as in future Paizo books and adventures."
Released in 2006, the ENnie award-winning Hero Lab includes an easy-to-use, intuitive interface integrated with a versatile database engine. Users can add their own custom content to existing Pathfinder and/or other roleplaying games. Players can even create data files for entirely new game systems. The combination of powerful, user-friendly software and the diverse RPGs it supports make Hero Lab one of the most successful character management tools ever released.
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game is a fully supported tabletop RPG, with regularly released adventure modules, sourcebooks on the fantastic world of Golarion, and complete campaigns in the form of Pathfinder Adventure Paths like Kingmaker and The Serpent’s Skull. The Pathfinder RPG is also compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game.

21-May-2010 Internet Outage
May 22 Update: As of around 11am on the 22nd, AT&T has fixed the line and we're now back up. It seems one of their techs cut the line yesterday.
I'm sorry to report that there has a major hardware failure somewhere between our offices and our internet service provider. As a result, our corporate server is currently inaccessible.
While the outage persists, all sales, license activations and transfers, update checking, and product downloads will fail. However, our forums at http://forums.wolflair.com/ and our main web page at http://www.wolflair.com/ are hosted on separate servers, and are not affected by this outage.
We've reported the problem to our ISP, and they're working on a fix right now. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Until then, we apologize for any inconvenience this outage causes.

13-May-2010 Lone Wolf Development to develop Shadowrun data package for Hero Lab
Catalyst Game Labs and Lone Wolf Development are pleased to announce that they have entered into a new, long-term license for the Shadowrun intellectual property. Lone Wolf will shortly begin development of a Shadowrun data package for its award-winning character management software, Hero Lab. The new data package will initially cover the core Shadowrun Fourth Edition game system, and will later be expanded with content from Shadowrun’s many great supplements.
"We’ve been working with Lone Wolf to make this happen for a long time," states Randall Bills, Managing Developer of Catalyst Game Labs. "Once we finalized the details, Topps approved the license quickly, signifying their appreciation of the importance of digital tools in further developing the Shadowrun line. Lone Wolf Development has a history of bringing innovative technology to the gaming industry, and we look forward to diving into this great new opportunity for Shadowrun alongside them."
Released in 2006, the ENnie award-winning Hero Lab includes an easy-to-use, intuitive interface atop a versatile database engine. Data packages for more than a dozen different role-playing games from a wide range of publishers are already available. Users can add their own custom content to existing games or even create data files for entirely new game systems. The combination of powerful, user-friendly software and the diverse RPGs it supports make Hero Lab one of the most successful character management tools ever released.
"We’re very excited to add Shadowrun to the list of games Hero Lab supports", said Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development. "Catalyst recognizes that digital tools like Hero Lab are critical to the success of the gaming industry in the 21st century. By lowering the barrier of entry, Hero Lab makes it easier than ever for RPGs to attract new players, and for existing players to maximize their gaming experience."

31-Dec-2009 Army Builder 3.2b Released!
Hello all,
We've just released Army Builder 3.2b, a free update for anyone with an active Army Builder license (and also all users licensed for AB 3.2, even if your license has since expired). Click here to download and install the new release.
Important changes in this release include:
- Army Builder now respects the Windows "Set custom text size" feature in many of its controls. This means that if you tell Windows to show text at larger sizes than normal, text within Army Builder will now be larger too.
- Mousing over a unit or item in the Available Units list or Roster tree will now display a tooltip containing information about that unit or item, instead of the general tooltip for the control.
- If you try to reassign your license before the waiting period is up, a large prompt message now invites you to visit our web site and fill in a simple form to request a reassignment. This should make it easier to submit the required information and have your license reassigned quickly.
- The minimum resolution checked for is now 800x550, to allow netbooks with very small resolutions to run Army Builder. The "Disable Resolution Check" menu item has been removed.
- ABCreator no longer outputs some elements that were causing backwards compatability issues with previous versions of Army Builder.
- Over 20 other bugs fixed - see the c:\ArmyBuilderEX\readme.txt file for more details.
Click here to download the new release.
*Please note!* If you have problems after installing the new release through the updates mechanism, try downloading it from our web site and installing it manually. Previous releases of Army Builder did not always install new versions correctly through the updates mechanism, but you can fix the problem by simply downloading and running the installer from our web site. (This bug was fixed in v3.2b, so it won't be a problem in future versions.)
Enjoy the new release, and happy new year! :)

03-Oct-2009 Hero Lab V3.5 Available
We just released a new V3.5 update for Hero Lab. You can download it from our website or via the integrated Updates mechanism.
The primary new feature added to this release is a major overhaul of how tab panels are handled for game systems with dynamically created tabs, such as d20 and Pathfinder. These games can now utilize a single, common panel for all the different classes, included user-created classes. The net result is a more flexible mechanism with a smaller memory footprint. It also greatly simplifies the creation of custom classes, since users don't have to worry about all those separate data files containing the tab panels. In fact, all those data files can now be jettisoned, since they are no longer utilized by the new mechanism. For backwards compatibility, you can leave them around and they will be properly ignored.
For Pathfinder, we've streamlined a bunch more stuff from the way the old d20 files handled things, but we're still wrapping up a few details in the data files and getting the docs into place. So the ability to add custom classes is now in place, but you won't have access to it for a few more days while we finish up a few final tweaks and adds some solid documentation.
There have been a number of additional enhancements that are targeted at data file authors. You'll find these outlined in the readme file included with the release. [More Info]

10-Aug-2009 Hero Lab Supports Pathfinder Roleplaying Game!
On August 13th, Lone Wolf Development will release the eagerly-awaited Pathfinder Roleplaying Game data package for Hero Lab. The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game package allows you to create adventurers and NPCs in the world of Golarion, described in the upcoming "Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook" from Paizo Publishing.
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game data package includes all the races, character classes, spells, feats, magic items, and all the new mechanics introduced by the Core Rulebook, presented in Hero Lab's award-winning user-friendly interface.
Like all of Hero Lab's supported game systems, the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game data package allows players to create characters in minutes, verify them with Hero Lab's built-in validation engine, and print out character sheets (or use Hero Lab itself at the game table). GMs can create NPCs, and use the Tactical Console to manage encounters between the players and their foes.
(Note - this is an early release of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game data package, so the integrated data file editor, prestige classes, and some other functionality are not yet available. These will be corrected in free updates that will be made available in the weeks after the initial release.) [More Info]

21-Jan-2009 Hero Lab and d20Pro Now Offer Seamless Integration
For Immediate Release
Lone Wolf Development and MindGene, LLC are proud to announce compatibility between the award-winning character creator Hero Lab and cutting-edge virtual tabletop d20Pro.
With Hero Lab 3.0 and d20Pro 1.14, you can create a d20 System character within Hero Lab and then import it into d20Pro with only a few clicks of the mouse. Characters created and validated in Hero Lab are seamlessly transferred to any campaign augmented by d20Pro's virtual tabletop (VTT). "Building upon our alliances with numerous publishers, this partnership with MindGene represents the first step towards creating a collaborative software ecosystem for the RPG community," says Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development.
This new integration allows you all the power and flexibility of Hero Lab's character management engine, coupled with the extensive capabilities of d20Pro's virtual tabletop, to run your regular game session. You can also take advantage of the hundreds of stock heroes and animals already included within Hero Lab, quickly importing them into your d20Pro game. Once imported, you can mix and match these creatures with those already in d20Pro. "This partnership emphasizes the core competencies of both products and establishes a new high water mark for what software can offer those who enjoy d20 based gaming," adds MindGene President, Mat Morton.
Hero Lab, winner of a 2008 ENnie award for "Best Aid or Accessory", is an easy to use character management program for Windows. Supported game systems include the d20 System, Mutants & Masterminds, World of Darkness, and Savage Worlds. Download the free demo from http://www.wolflair.com/hero_lab/.
d20Pro is a VTT for d20 System games that runs as a Java application on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Last year's exploits include groundbreaking player experiences at Origins, GenCon, and Dragon*Con featuring d20Pro enabled sessions of Paizo's Pathfinder Society, The Cheese Grinder, original series Kobolds' Revenge, and many other games. Obtain more information and a free trial of d20Pro at http://www.d20pro.com/.

22-Dec-2008 Hero Lab 3.0 & Authoring Kit released
Hero Lab 3.0 is now available! This release, a free update for all users, has one major update - the long-awaited Authoring Kit.
(Note: Although all users will be able to view the new 'sample game system' and any game systems created with the Authoring Kit, Hero Lab will operate in demo mode with those games unless you purchase the "Authoring Kit / Savage Worlds" data package.)
PLEASE NOTE! The Authoring Kit, and the Savage Worlds data files, are NOT YET COMPLETE. The documentation for the Authoring Kit still needs to be updated, and the Savage Worlds data files still need a few days work. However, after consultation with our beta testers, we decided that it was better to release this incomplete version, then update it later - that gives any users of the Authoring Kit an extra few weeks during the holidays to start learning it.
The d20, Mutants & Masterminds and World of Darkness game systems have not had any major updates yet, due to the fallout from the hack we discovered last week. These will be updated in the coming weeks.
As always, you can download Hero Lab 3.0 through the updates mechanism, or from our website at http://www.wolflair.com/ .
If you're interested in using the Authoring Kit to work on new games, you can find searchable work-in-progress documentation here: http://hlkitwiki.wolflair.com/
A new forum for discussion of the Authoring Kit has been created here. Please post any questions or comments about it in that forum.
Once again, PLEASE NOTE! The Authoring Kit, and the Savage Worlds data files, are NOT YET COMPLETE. More complete versions will be released in the upcoming weeks.
Happy gaming and Happy holidays! [More Info]

27-Nov-2008 Hero Lab V2.3b Released
Happy Thanksgiving!!
The new V2.3b release of Hero Lab can now be downloaded via the usual methods. This update includes just a handful of functionality refinements and bug fixes. The complete list can be found in the "readme" file installed with the product. However, the most important items are covered below.
* When tables with three or more columns would display more than one row of items, Hero Lab will no longer crash. This could be seen when enabling an extra saving throw option in Mutants & Masterminds or equipping more than three weapons in d20 and switching to the In-Play tab.
* The Editor now fixes up old fields (i.e. created with an older version of the Editor) automatically. This allows you to fix problems with old files that give errors with fields like "stack_qty", "stack_each", etc. Load the files into the Editor, make one change (e.g. adding or deleting a new thing) and then save the file. This should fix all the errors from that file that are due to out-of-date contents.
* Added a "Delete Panel" button to the Editor. If old panels are giving you errors (such as the error "Unrecognized attribute 'multiadd'"), you can use this button to delete the old panels and then create new ones.
As always, holler if you run into problems and we'll do our best to help. We're in the final countdown to getting the long-awaited Authoring Kit released in the next few weeks. Keep those fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and you'll be able to create data files for virtually any game system you want over the holidays. [More Info]

17-Oct-2008 Hero Lab V2.3 Release
Hero Lab V2.3 is finally available. This new release includes a number of nifty new capabilities. It also marks the official release of the Ultimate Power and Masterminds Manual add-on for Mutants & Masterminds.
Below is a quick summary of some of the key additions and changes in this release.
• The highly anticipated add-on for Mutants & Masterminds is now available. You can purchase access to the material from Ultimate Power and Masterminds Manual by going to the License menu within Hero Lab and selecting the "Purchase Data Package" option. You can also purchase the add-on via an option at the bottom of the "Configure Hero" form. If you have not purchased Hero Lab yet, you must first purchase the product and activate the license for M&M. After that, you can purchase the M&M add-on.
• Game systems are now downloaded separately from Hero Lab. The Updates mechanism is closely integrated with the "Select Game System" form, allowing you to view which games need to be updated and trigger the download. New versions of Hero Lab and other components (e.g. PDF plug-in) are also identified when available.
• A summary of the packages that are licensed and active, as well as any others available for purchase, is provided at the bottom of the "Configure Hero" form.
• Compiling data files with data file debugging enabled will generate a timing report of the data files that identifies all timing dependencies and flags any timing errors that are detected by the compiler.
• If timing errors are detected when compiling data files, Hero Lab will report the error, but it will allow the data files to be loaded normally. This allows the user to access the timing report and makes corrections as needed to eliminate the errors.
• Added a new "Debug" menu to orchestrate all data file debugging activities. This used to be a submenu of the "Tools" menu.
There are a number of other important additions included in V2.3, so please take a look at the "readme" file that is included with the new version. Changes specific to each game system will be found within the FAQ for the respective game system. [More Info]

15-Aug-2008 Hero Lab Wins ENnie!
At the ENnie Awards ceremony, held Friday night at Gen Con Indy 08, Hero Lab received an ENnie Award in the Best Aid or Accessory category!
We're thrilled with the award, which recognizes the effort we've put into making Hero Lab a powerful character creation and GM support tool.
We'd like to thank the ENnie award judges and all of our customers, whose support means a lot to us!
While at Gen Con, we had several people come to our booth to purchase, noting that friends had shown them the program, so thank you to all those friends!
We feel Hero Lab is the best tool of it's kind on the market, and many players apparently agree.
While at Gen Con, a gentleman come to the booth for a demo. Well, okay, hundreds of gentlemen came to the booth for a demo, but at the end of the demo this particular gentleman just stood staring at the monitor. We couldn't tell if he was in deep thought or angry about something. When asked if something was wrong, he told us that he had already pre-ordered another software tool which was to be released in the coming months. That tool had cost $40, while Hero Lab's cost is only $30, and his opinion was that Hero Lab was a far superior tool. After a few more moments of thought, he purchased Hero Lab. :)
Again, thank you all for your support! The LWD team. [More Info]

18-Apr-2008 Hero Lab update includes Pathfinder, Requiem for Rome, and Companions
We're excited to herald the availability of Hero Lab V2.0, delivering a wealth of new content for players of both the d20 and World of Darkness game systems. This content is in addition to the Campaign Workbench functionality introduced in V2.0.
Players of the d20 system, will enjoy extensive support for hirelings and companions, such as familiars, animal companions and Paladin mounts. If your character has access to a companion, simply click on the "Companion" button and Hero Lab creates it automatically. Switch to the companion with a second click and you can readily customize the minion as you see fit. Adding fully detailed hirelings and mounts is just as easy. Hero Lab includes many common animal and NPC races, allowing you to create a diverse variety of followers at the click of your mouse.
Pathfinder players can tap the wealth of material published to date. Hero Lab provides detailed content spanning Pathfinder 1 through 7, as well as the Curse of the Crimson Throne player's guide, all with the full support of Paizo Publishing.
World of Darkness players can now take advantage of the complete character content featured in the recent Requiem for Rome supplement. Storytellers can quickly create NPCs of any power level with Hero Lab's on-the-fly estimation logic, providing STs with a running estimate of the XP rating for any NPC.
For both d20 System and World of Darkness users, Hero Lab now includes more than 100 pre-configured "stock" heroes for your use. Instead of spending hours painstakingly preparing your NPCs, you can now simply start with the stock heroes and apply a few final touches to tailor them for your game.
Curious gamers can take Hero Lab for a free test drive! Just download and install Hero Lab from our site to see exactly how powerful it is.

26-Mar-2008 Hero Lab's v2.0 Release offers Major Enhancements!
We're pleased to announce the immediate release of Hero Lab v2.0, which includes the first of many Campaign Workbench tools for Players and GMs.
Included in this release are the following major enhancements:
Multiple Hero Support Multiple characters can now be seamlessly managed at the same time. An entire party of player characters, allies, and even enemies, can all be accessed with the click of a button. Characters can create fully-linked animal companions, familiars, hirelings, etc., which Hero Lab can output either with the linked character or separately.
Campaign Workbench Designed for use by Game Masters, this initial release of our Campaign Workbench content focuses on the Dashboard and Tactical Console components.
The Dashboard conveniently displays summary information for player characters, enemies encountered, important NPC allies, etc. In addition, the Dashboard provides expansive access to quick-reference data via mouse-over buttons, and allows the user to switch between characters with a click of the mouse. When reviewing a character, you may note the expenditure of spells and item charges, track damage, or update modifiers as a result of spell effects or abilities.
Hero Lab’s Tactical Console shows even more summary information regarding the characters on the Dashboard, including weapons, armor, health, combat modifiers, and a selection of useful skills and abilities (especially those the GM might want to roll in secret, such as “listen” and “spot”).
The Tactical Console is tailored for use both in and out of combat, highlighting the information most useful in each context - serving as the command center when running a game. During combat, the Tactical Console generates and tracks initiative status for all combatants, including delayed and readied actions. Player characters and their allies are visually distinguished from enemies on the Tactical Console, for maximum usability.
Original Art Because images are an essential way to visually tailor Hero Lab, this release includes a diverse selection of 60+ pieces of high-quality, original art for your use.
Current Hero Lab users can download and install these core product enhancements for free, enjoying the expanded content and functionality at no additional cost.
Future updates will include additional content for Hero Lab’s Campaign Workbench, as well as new output options.

02-Jan-2008 Ushering in 2008
2007 was a busy year for Lone Wolf. While we actually released Hero Lab the very end of 2006, it was a huge focus for us throughout 2007, and we're very pleased with the results. We believe that Hero Lab is the best character creation software out there, right now.
In the next short while we'll be updating Hero Lab with the promised Campaign R&D content (game tools for game masters), issuing a great new update to Army Builder, and releasing the Hero Lab data package for Mutants & Masterminds, so it's going to be a busy couple of months.
Lone Wolf would like to issue a heartfelt thank you to all of our customers! Your support means everything to us. Your inspiration helps us to make better and better products!
Happy New Year, and we hope to see you at an event or visit with you on our forums very soon.
Lone Wolf Development staff
P.S. If you are a product reviewer for an RPG website, or looking to become one, we'd like to encourage you to play with Hero Lab and write an honest review. If that review is released on a mainstream RPG site (like RPG.net, GamingReport.com, DriveThruRPG, etc.), send us a link and we'll issue you a free license.

01-Dec-2007 Hero Lab V1.3 Released!
Our latest Hero Lab update is available for download. With this update we have two major additions.
World of Darkness/Vampite: The Requiem *The system data package for WoD/VtR is now available as a "system bundle" choice to new Hero Lab users, and as an additional system purchase for existing Hero Lab users! *Existing Hero Lab users who want to switch from d20 to WoD may do so by sending an e-mail with your license number to support@wolflair.com with "Switch to WoD" in the subject line. Note that this switch will mean you will no longer have access to the d20 data package. *To purchase WoD as an additional system, go to the "License Menu" and select "Purchase Data Package." The cost of the WoD/VtR data package as an additional system is only $20, and gives you all the material from the World of Darkness, Vampire: The Requiem, and WoD Armory books, so you can generate Mortals, Vampires, Ghouls, and Ghosts using rules from those books. *Planned future VtR add-ons include Bloodlines and Covenants.
Paizo's Pathfinder Series for d20 d20 users now have acess to material from Paizo Publishing's Pathfinder product line. The Pathfinder content includes the Pathfinder Player’s Guide and Pathfinder series 1-3, with goodies such as the Spherewalker prestige class, new feats, spells, weapons, armor and equipment, sample characters from the series, plus the domains for the Pathfinder Pantheon of gods. This is free content provided courtesy Paizo Publishing. [More Info]

18-Aug-2007 Hero Lab to Support Margaret Weis Productions RPGs
Lone Wolf Development today announced an agreement-in-principle which will allow its revolutionary Hero Lab software to support the Cortex System Roleplaying Game rules from Margaret Weis Productions. Currently used as the engine for the Serenity and Battlestar Galactica RPGs, the Cortex System is also slated to be used for a variety of other projects by Margaret Weis Productions in the very near future.
Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development, said, "When we released Hero Lab last year, we already had our 'short list' of companies whose products we knew we had to support, and MWP was obviously on that list. We're very excited to show players of Cortex System games what Hero Lab has under the hood."
"Lone Wolf Development has an impressive history of delivering incredibly powerful software that really lets players explore the rules and play their style of game," said Jamie Chambers, Vice President of Margaret Weis Productions. "Since Cortex is an extremely versatile system, we've always known that any electronic support for the game would have to be equally versatile, and Hero Lab is able to handle anything that our designers can throw at it."
While specific dates have not yet been announced, the Cortex System data files have been tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2008 release.

Lone Wolf Development is pleased to announce the addition of Ken Carpenter to their management team, serving as Director of Operations.
"Ken and I have known each other for nearly a decade, and his extensive industry experience will be invaluable as we pursue our goals," said Rob Bowes, president of Lone Wolf Development. "We're poised for significant growth, so having the right team in place is essential. We're thrilled to have Ken on board."
"It's exciting to work with Rob and his team. I'm a long-time fan of Army Builder, and have been enjoying Hero Lab since its release. Lone Wolf's blend of creativity and technical expertise is apparent in their products - it's what makes them the very best. Lone Wolf is in an excellent position, and I plan to help them manage their success."
Mr. Carpenter has worked in the gaming industry since 1992, with such companies as Alderac Entertainment Group, TSR and White Wolf Publishing. During that time, he's been integral to the design and development of multiple collectible card, role-playing and miniatures games. 13-Aug-2007 Campaign R&D Expansion Coming for Hero Lab
Lone Wolf Development announces the upcoming release of campaign support for Hero Lab. To be previewed at Gen Con Indy 2007, the upcoming expansion introduces many new features designed for gamemasters, including robust in-play management.
Core campaign features will debut in late 2007 with additional functionality appearing in 2008. Campaign R&D will be included with your Hero Lab license - no additional purchase is necessary.
The following features will appear in Hero Lab as part of Campaign R&D - * Player Character management: Build the player character group, so the GM can view character details such as armor, health, and saves, quickly and easily, and without the player's knowledge. * NPC management: Create and maintain important NPCs, including skills, equipment, spells, background and special notes. * Encounter management: Create and annotate encounter groups, and toggle them on or off for the current encounter. GMs have oversight to their stats, wounds, armor, etc. * Initiative tracking: Manage initiative order, changes to initiative, and other dynamic effects. * Combat tracking: Orchestrate all in-play changes from accumulated damage and damage type to situational adjustments such as higher ground and prone to temporary influences such as paralysis and spell effects. * GM Planning and Journaling: Create and manage content for adventures, with tools offering challenge assessment, experience rewards, strategy planning, in-game notes, post-game assessment and notes, and much more. * Ability to build custom modules: In early 2008, users will be able to create their own custom modules, using Hero Lab design tools.
Campaign R&D is seamlessly integrated into Hero Lab's intuitive, easy to use interface. The Campaign Dashboard gives GMs immediate and complete access to all critical campaign functions: player character details, NPC information, current and potential encounter groups, initiative and combat tracking, journal entries... all with simple point-and-click ease.
Rob Bowes, President of Lone Wolf Development, said, "These tools have been in the planning stages for some time, so we're excited to preview a few of them at Gen Con. With Hero Lab's ability to support virtually any RPG system, this important addition to our software will be a wonderful aid to a great many gamemasters. The recently announced partnership with Paizo Publishing works hand in hand with Campaign R&D, as Hero Lab users will have access to content from Paizo's Pathfinder Adventure Paths for use in their own games."

Hero Lab will be an incredible aid to our readers and players," said Erik Mona, Paizo's Publisher.

30-Dec-2006 Hero Lab Data File Editing Delay
While we were working on the editing tools, we had a brainstorm about how to make things much easier for users than was originally anticipated. Unfortunately, doing that required a lot more work than was originally planned, including re-working the data files a moderate amount. We were faced with three choices: (1) implement the harder-to-use solution quickly, (2) implement the easy-to-use solution and wait until everything was completed about a month late, or (3) implement the easy-to-use solution and release the editing functionality in stages. We opted for #3 to get easy-to-use tools into users' hands as quickly as possible. Consequently, the editing functionality will be added progressively over the next few weeks, with the first release occurring on Tuesday. Thanks for your patience while we complete the easy-to-use solution.

There's more to an RPG character than just stats and abilities. Every character has their own history, and their own path through the world of the game they inhabit. In Hero Lab, the Background tab is your opportunity to document your character's back story and personal information. As your character evolves during play, the Journal tab allows you to take notes on each game session, encounter, or significant game event, and tracks the character's accumulation of wealth and experience. Both of these tabs are the subject of our next preview article. [More Info]

Over the past few days, we've been moving our offices to a new location. The server has been relocated, the phones have been transferred, and everything is now working as it should. There may still be some lag in the propogation of the new server location throughout the internet, so some of you may be unable to access our server for another day or so while everyone gets the updated info. If so, please be patient and access should resume shortly.

Lone Wolf Development will be moving its offices on September 5th. At some point the previous night, our main server will be shutdown and prepped for the move. Once moved, it will take up to 72 hours (hopefully less) for computers around the world to be updated with the new server address. During this interval, online sales, license administration, product downloads, and updates retrievals will be unavailable. We'll be working to complete the move as quickly as possible, so please be patient during this transition.

10-Aug-2006 Lone Wolf Announces Hero Lab
Today, we are happy to announce the Fall 2006 release of our new RPG software, Hero Lab. Using Hero Lab, players create characters, as the software's intuitive user interface enables them to experiment with all applicable options. Every adjustment is automatically tracked, and any potential rules violations are flagged and immediately brought to the user's attention. As characters advance, Hero Lab allows players to chart every stage of their characters' evolution.
Utilizing our proprietary technology, Hero Lab helps players select from an ever-lengthening list of options, rules, and other information to build precisely the character they want, and the automated rules validation system constantly checks to make sure that every character is legal for play. Consistent with our business model, Hero Lab will support a wide variety of RPG games from throughout the industry.
Hero Lab will retail at $29.99 US, and will be available from leading hobby retailers, as well as online at www.wolflair.com. We will have more information about Hero Lab available on our web site right after Gen Con.

01-Aug-2006 New Server is Operational
The past 11 days have been brutal, but we're finally back online. The record heatwave here in California early last week caused numerous power outages, with temperatures reaching just shy of 100 degrees INSIDE our office. Needless to say, our poor server just couldn't take it any longer and went belly-up on Thursdsy.
The good news is that we had already purchased a new server to replace the old one. The bad news is that it was still in the box, awaiting configuration after GenCon. Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't working on the same schedule we were. :-(
After six days of virtually non-stop installation, configuration, and tuning, the server now appears to be fully operational. We ran into some nasty issues due to Windows 2003 Server breaking some of the custom mechanisms we had running smoothly under Windows 2000 Server, but they have now been resolved. The only change that should impact users is an adjustment to how key files are now retrieved and installed for Army Builder V2.x users. Unless you are using the old product, everything should now be back to normal.
Thank you to everyone for their patience while we dealt with this problem. With a little luck, this new server will give us many years of reliable service. :-)

10-Jul-2006 New Product In The Works

GenCon 2006 is only a few short weeks away and we are pushing hard to have everything in place to unveil a completely new product at GenCon. The new product is slated for release in October, and we'll be showing it for the first time at GenCon. More details on the new product will be announced in the next few weeks, so stay tuned....

12-Apr-2006 Oops! Army Builder V3.1c Released

Hot on the heels of V3.1b, we just posted V3.1c. At the last minute, we added something that we thought would be helpful to data file authors. Sorry for the inconvenience! Get the new version via the Updates mechanism or by downloading the files here.

10-Feb-2006 Major Server Crash
In the afternoon of February 8th, our licensing and administration server suffered a major crash. It seems that the fan in the power supply died, the system overheated, and one of the disk drives died as a result. The power supply has now been replaced, and everything has been restored from backups. The server is now back online and everything seems to be working again. All is not well, however. The problem we still face is that we had to use a backup to restore everything. The automated backup from the night before the crash failed (we assume due to the effects of the failing fan), so we actually lost about 36 hours worth of data. We have separate information about all online orders that were processed during the "lost" period, but that data is not currently in the database. All the details of those orders now need to be reconstructed, and that's going to take us a bit of time to accomplish correctly. If you did not place any orders during the "lost" period (beginning around 6:00am PST on Feb. 7th), then everything should be fine for you. However, if you purchased a license, an extension, or something else during the "lost" time, that information is NOT currently in our database. During the next few days, we'll be working to reconstruct everything from the separate data, and we'll be contacting impacted users with any details about the results of the process. If you have been affected, please be patient while we get things sorted out. Thanks for your understanding!!!

23-Sep-2005 An Open Call to All Card Vault Users
As Lone Wolf Development works to find new and innovative ways to support game players, we find ourselves constrained by available resources. (The classic dilemma of many a small company, to be sure.) As such, we are putting out a call for any interested parties who are willing to construct data files for the following games:
Magic: the Gathering MechWarrior HeroClix Pirates Rocketmen Shadowfist Vampire: the Eternal Struggle Warhammer 40K CCG Warlord Yu Yu Hakusho
Finding authors to assume responsibility for these lines will ensure that the LWD staff is better able to provide program updates and upgrades. We'll have time to devote to some exciting new projects currently on the drawing board. Most importantly, users will continue to receive the highest level of support possible from LWD.
If you would like to become a data file author, drop us a line at support@wolflair.com. If you've already written some CV files, send us a sample. Let us know if you have any applicable programming experience, along with a general idea of your level of familiarity with Card Vault. We're happy to hear from anyone who's interested in helping us out.
Thank you for your continued support for Card Vault.

26-May-2005 Tell-A-Friend and Earn Free Rewards!
You already know how great our software is. Make sure your friends know too and we'll thank you by extending your license! When they purchase an electronic download of Army Builder or Card Vault at wolflair.com, they will have a chance to identify the person who referred them. That person gets a free 120-day extension to their AB or CV license. All you have to do is make sure your friends know your last name and the last 4 digits of your license code. They can enter those two pieces of information at any time in the order process, just by clicking on the "[Change]" link next to the Tell-A-Friend logo at the bottom of every order screen, and we'll automatically extend your license. There's no limit to the number of friends you can refer, so get the word out now and Tell-A-Friend!

27-Apr-2005 wolflair.com is Moving to a New Host
Now that the office move is completed, we're moving wolflair.com to a new hosting service. This new host will allow us to provide some cool new services that we'll be launching in the next few weeks. During the next 48-72 hours, the transition may cause wolflair.com to become temporarily unreachable. Our email access will also be spotty during the transition. If we don't run into any problems, no emails should be lost. However, if you don't get a response to an email you send over the next few days, please send it again. Thanks for your patience.
25-Apr-2005 Temporary Server Outage
Now that the bulk of the office move is complete, the server must be moved to the new location. The server will go down Monday night and should be back up on Tuesday. However, it typically takes another 48 hours before every ISP updates itself with the new location, so you may not be able to access the server until Thursday. While the server is down, all data file updates, license administration, and onine sales will be offline. Thanks for your patience.

22-Apr-2005 LWD Offices are Moving
Throughout the past week, Lone Wolf Development has been relocating its offices to a new location. Unfortunately, the move has led to some disruption of our phone service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience as we settle in to our new home!

10-Mar-2005 Army Builder V3.0 En Route to Distributors
The retail packaged version of Army Builder V3.0 has finally made it through production and is now on its way to distributors around the world. In the States, most retailers should be able to order AB3 from their regular distributor next week. It usually takes a couple weeks longer to get the product across the ocean.
Please remember that the CD version of AB3 works COMPLETELY different from the V2.x CD, instead behaving pretty much the same as the electronic license. For more details, please check out this link.

26-Feb-2005 Server Outage

We encountered some technical issues with the server today. We took the server down for a few hours and double-checked everything, just to be safe. The server is now back up and running smoothly. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

18-Feb-2005 Email Problems Resolved
Everything seems to be back to normal now with our outbound email. The blocks in place with AOL, RoadRunner, and a few others now appear to be removed. All emails that had been rejected over the past week-and-a-half have now been re-sent, and they have been properly delivered.
17-Feb-2005 Email Problem Update
On Wednesday, the outgoing email problem (see news entry below) was finally sorted out by our ISP. We're now waiting for AOL, RoadRunner, and a few other major ISPs to get the properly updated information into their systems. Until that happens, our outbound email is still being rejected by these particular ISPs. As soon as we're able to get email through to these ISPs, all previously rejected emails (including licenses) will be sent out again. Thanks for your patience.
11-Feb-2005 Email Problems Alert
Due to more stupidity by our ISP, the changeover of our IP address was handled incorrectly. Our IP address was incorrectly designated in a class that is automatically blocked by a few major ISPs, including AOL and RoadRunner. We're trying to get things sorted out, but our ISP's incompetence keeps rearing its ugly head.
At present, attempts by us to send email to AOL and RoadRunner accounts are being rejected due to this wrong classification. If you have sent us an email (or made a purchase) using an email address from one of these providers, please contact us with a different email address so that we can reach you. Otherwise, all emails to AOL and RoadRunner are on hold until we get this sorted out. [Note: Some emails to RoadRunner accounts are getting through, but most are not. No emails to AOL accounts are working.]

08-Feb-2005 Website Outage Update
Due to the complete and utter stupidity of our internet provider, critical components of our web capabilities are currently offline. The outage affects all updates retrieval, all license management, all secure product sales, and all product downloads. Those four things are all out of commission right now.
We've been forced to change our IP address for our server to fix the problem, so things should start coming up again over the next 24-48 hours. Due to the way this change will be propogated around the globe, some people will have access before others. So please wait a full 48 hours before reporting any "the site is down" problems.

Due to the dramatic changes from V2.x to V3.0, the conversion is NOT perfect, but it achieves 99% success, and the remaining 1% can be pretty easily tweaked by hand. If you would like to give the converter a try, you can download it. The Zip file contains the converter itself and a readme with usage instructions.

10-Jan-2005 All Free Upgrade Licenses Issued
Although it took us longer than we anticipated, all free Army Builder V3.0 upgrade licenses have now been issued to users who purchased V2.x after May 1, 2004. If you have not received your license, first verify that your are still using the same email address that we have in our records from your purchase. If your email address has changed, please notify us. If your email address is the same, check your spam folder, since aggressive spam settings will sometimes treat the license email as spam. If your spam is being deleted, change your settings so it's NOT auto-deleted and then let us know so we can re-send the license to you.

21-Jan-2004 Alert! - AOL Blocking Email
In their infinite "wisdom", AOL is currently blocking all email from our mail servers. We have spent countless hours trying to get this sorted out with both AOL and our ISP. Unfortunately, AOL has responded with glacial speed. We've been told by AOL that they now have what they need, so it should "only" take 3-7 days to remove the block. Until then, we are unable to get email (including product licenses) to AOL customers. If you are an AOL customer, please contact us via an alternate email (e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) until we can get this resolved.

12-Jan-2004 We've Moved!
We've now moved our offices to back Silicon Valley after a two-year absence. Although we still have a zillion boxes to unpack, the desks are in, the computers are running, and the servers are back online. All updates for Army Builder and Card Vault should again be operational, the license management servers for both products should now be working smoothly, and online sales are again active. Our physical contact info will be updated on the website shortly. We're a week behind now and still have lots of unpacking to do, but we'll be working to get caught up this coming week. For those of you impacted by this move, we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience!
05-Jan-2004 We're Moving!
Yes, we're moving our offices this week. Over 200 miles to Silicon Valley. As a result, our license administration and updates servers will be down for at least 48 hours. At some point Tuesday night (6th), the servers will be shutdown and shipped to the new offices the next morning. Our goal is to have everything back up and running again by Thursday night (8th), but that assumes there aren't any surprises. Also, there will be a slight extra delay while computers around the world get updated with the new location of our servers. The bottom line is that the servers will be down for a couple days, maybe longer, during the move. We'll get them up and running again as quickly as humanly possible. Thanks for your patience!

18-Jun-2003 Unexpected Download Problems
The data files for some game systems are hosted on yahoogroups. These are games for which we have not yet been granted official permission to host data files on our servers. Yahoogroups recently changed access to these files, resulting in sporadic download failures. This change was unannounced by yahoogroups and caught everyone by surprise, so please forgive the inconvenience. We're working with a few fans to arrange an alternate solution and hope something is in place in the next couple of weeks.

01-May-2003 Card Vault Now Supports Apprentice

Card Vault can now export decks into the Apprentice file format for Magic for use in online play.
With this new feature, not only can Card Vault owners use the program’s powerful tools to create tournament-caliber decks for Magic: the Gathering, they can test them immediately against online opponents at any time of the day or night.
This is all a part of our continuing effort to make Card Vault the indispensable tool for all CCG and CMG players. Not only do we support over two dozen games, but we want to support all play styles. We are looking at integrating with other popular on-line services, as well.

25-Mar-2003 GAMA Summary
GAMA was great! Show attendance was up, and the booth was hopping. Rob and Ed spent most of the show meeting with manufacturers and potential partner sites, while Lupe and Colen did neverending demos of Card Vault and Army Builder. Many manufacturers were excited about posting CV Exchange files on their website to ease singles shopping for their customers.
News flash: Starting with the May issue, Scrye magazine will be hosting Card Vault deck files for their deck articles! Be sure to check out the May issue when it ships in the next two weeks.
We'll have some other announcements soon, but we don't want to tip our hand until everything is squared away.

On the other hand, we'll probably have some big news to announce when we get back, so stay tuned!

04-Mar-2003 Version 1.1 Details
Here's what to expect in Version 1.1: * A complete redesign of the inventory system * A "Quick Search" instantly jumps to the next card that contains text you enter. * Solid keyboard support, including arrow keys, multiple card selection, and the capability to press a key to jump to the next card that starts with that character. * Text searching is now case-INsensitive. * Card names can be sorted using "library sort" rules, which ignores "the" and "a" and punctuation at the start of a name. * Users can generate "test hands" for their current deck to see how a deck will (or won't) work in practice. * Users can specify a "target" quantity for cards, telling Card Vault the quantity they want to own, with the excess and acquire quantities automatically calculated. * More configuration options in every screen. * Your trade/want lists can be shared with others via the new exchange files generated by Card Vault. These files can be automatically compared to your current inventory to facilitate trades. * Introduced a new "Web Partners" mechanism, providing a gateway to web-based partner sites that offer deck repositories, trading services, and price downloads. Card Vault can now upload/download decks, exchange files, and pricing data automatically with partner sites using an open architecture so that new sites can participate as they wish. * Decks can now be saved to a public XML file format and Card Vault allows custom extensions, enabling users to create their own extensions for use with Card Vault (e.g., proxy card printers). * Data files can now include card text in multiple languages. Card Vault can display the language text and users can perform searches within the text. * A bunch of other minor stuff all over the place.
Enjoy!
